Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Comparison of winter branches of Tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) and Sweet-gum (Liquidambar styraciflua). If the dried remains of the fruits are dark, spiky balls and hang down on a thin stem, then it's a sweet-gum tree (lower image). If the dried remains of the fruit are pale and tulip-shaped and stick up stiffly, then it's a tulip tree (upper image). Duke Forest Korstian Division, Durham, North Carolina USA.
