Summary

[edit]
Description One of my favorite buildings in the Cleveland area is the Tudor Arms Hotel, constructed in an Art Deco interpretation of the Tudor Revival style in 1933. Originally home to the exclusive Cleveland Club, the building started construction in 1929, but was not finished for four years. The peak of luxury and affluence in the city at the time, the building remained home to the exclusive club until 1939, when financial difficulties caused the club to default and go bankrupt. The building then became home to the Tudor Arms Hotel, which remained open until converted into a Case Western Reserve University dormitory in the 1960s, and later the Job Corps occupied the structure. In 2007, the building was sold to a developer, and was fully renovated and restored, reopening as a DoubleTree-branded Hotel, and restoration of the magnificent common spaces, including the library and indoor pool, are ongoing. Today, the building remains one of the tallest in the University Circle area of the city, and an impressive landmark on the city’s east side.
