Description
English: A tsuba, or ceremonial Japanese sword guard, by Yukan, on page 22 of the November 1922 Shadowland. The foundation is of yellow bronze, the lotus leaf is silver bronze, and the Heron is inlaid in silver. The accompanying article states that, with approximately 2 million Samurai at the time (estimated), international art markets were flooded with these shortly after Prime Minister Sanjo signed a decree forbidding the carrying of swords in 1876.
