Summary

[edit]
Description

New arrivals? Trumpeter swans that nest on Seedskadee NWR are joined in November by new arrivals from NW Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and some from Canada. Only a few of the new arrivals are marked in any way to identify individual birds. This family group (2 adults + 3 cygnets) appears to have recently arrived at Seedskadee NWR where they will overwinter with nearly 300 other trumpeter swans. They were preening and calling back and forth to another family group of new arrivals (you can hear them in the background). As new swans arrive for the winter, they will often join other swans, forming groups of 15 to 30 trumpeters. The family groups will remain together over the winter until the nesting/breeding season begins next spring.
