Description
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 8 December, shows Storm Jasper as it passed northeast of Australia. Jasper is a tropical storm which the beginning of the tropical cyclone season in the southern Pacific. According to the latest forecast from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Jasper is expected to intensify into a high-end Category 4 storm as it heads towards Queensland. Thanks to Copernicus' Sentinel satellites and their open data, scientists and meteorologists have access to a vast amount of data that can be used to mitigate and/or monitor the impact of extreme weather events, which are becoming more intense and frequent due to climate change.
