Description
English: Tropical Storm Fung Wong continued to weaken as it moved towards landfall on Miyako-jima Island, Okinawa prefecture, Japan. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), at 1500 UTC (10:00 a.m. EST) on November 22, Tropical Storm Fung Wong (also known as Sarah in the Philippines) crossed over Miyako-jima Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, packing maximum sustained winds of about 40 mph (56 km/h) and drenching rains. The storm is expected to continue to move toward the East China Sea and become a tropical depression by November 23. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of Tropical Storm Fung Wong early in the morning of November 22 as it moved toward Japan. The storm remained moderately organized with a large cloudy center. The triangular-shaped island due north of the center of the storm is Miyako-jima.
