Description
English: Tropical Cyclone 14S was approaching Western Australia when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the storm on January 21, 2021.

On January 22, at 0300 UTC (11:00 noon local time) the storm made landfall over the Pilbara coast, bringing with it winds of approximately 50 mph (80 km/h) and heavy rain. At landfall, Tropical Cyclone 14S moved inland on a southern tract and cyclone warnings were in effect for Sandfire, Bidyadanga, Broome, Telfer, and Beagle Bay. With 16-24 inches of rain expected along the initial track of the storm, flood watches are in effect for the West Kimberly Rivers, De Gray River, and Warburton District Rivers. The remnants of 14S are expected to carry rain across Australia as it tracks to the southeast over the next several days.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued the last advisory on Tropical Cyclone 14S at 0300 UTC on January 22 (10:00 p.m. January 21 EST). At that time, the storm was moving inland and showing substantial weakening. It was expected to dissipate within 24 hours.
