Nederlands: Diorama. Eén van de negen bekende diorama's van Gerrit Schouten met alle als thema een slavendanstafereel, een zogenaamde "du". In een grote open hut zijn van links naar rechts in totaal dertien musicerende, dansende of toekijkende mensfiguren te zien: een man met een lange gele schouderdoek, die een fluit (de "loango tou-tou") bespeelt; achter hem een man met blauw-witte schouderdoek en een hoge staande trom en een man met tussen zijn benen een grote liggende trom. In het midden achteraan staat een man met blauw-witte kleding, steunend op een stok. Op de voorgrond drie dansende vrouwen en één man; de vrouwen dragen wijde rokken, hoofddoeken en sieraden. Rechts achterin een man in een rijkelijk versierd 18e eeuws kostuum zonder de bijbehorende steek maar wel met schoenen aan (hetgeen in het dagelijkse leven voor slaven verboden was). Hij speelt de rol van 'de koning'. Daarnaast twee mannen in lange donkere kleding met platte hoeden; zij zijn oude slaven of oppassers. Geheel rechts vooraan een zittende en een staande man met lange schouderdoeken over hun gewaad.
Zo'n "du" - een rollenspel met stereotiepe figuren en scherpe teksten met politiek-sociale ondertoon - werd één of enkele malen per jaar gehouden en duurde verscheidene dagen (Medendorp 1999: 64-67 en 148; van Putten en Zantinge 1988: 27). Gerrit Schouten (1779-1839) was de eerste Surinaamse kunstenaar die erkenning kreeg. Hij was een bekwaam aquarellist van de rijke flora van Suriname maar hij werd het meest bekend als maker van kijkkastjes met een vernuftig perspectief. Deze diorama's met scènes uit de plantagekolonie maakte hij in opdracht van kolonialen die een aandenken mee terug wilden nemen naar Nederland. Gerrit Carl François Schouten werd in 1779 geboren als oudste zoon van de Nederlander Hendrik Schouten en de kleurlinge Suzanna Johanna Hanssen. Hij staat bekend als de maker van diorama's, een soort kijkkasten met perspectivische voorstellingen. De thema's zijn Indianenkampen, slavendansen, stadsgezichten en plantages. Schouten maakte de diorama's van 1810-1834; de meeste van de 24 die bekend zijn, zijn verspreid over nederlandse musea. Een aantal is particulier bezit, en één bevindt zich weer in Suriname.
