Nederlands: Foto. Tot op heden wordt de rijst die de Marrons zelf verbouwen nog op deze wijze gestampt . In sommige Marrongemeenschappen, met name in de kuststreken wordt ook gebruik gemaakt van rijstpelmolens (machines). Ook aan de Cotticarivier vind je enkele dorpen waar een rijstpelmolen staat die in veel gevallen niet intakt is, waardoor de vrouwen volledig terug vallen op de oude methode: rijst stampen in een vijzel.
Met één of meerdere personen kan rijst gestampt worden in een vijzel (Mata) met stampers (tikimata). De ongepelde rijst, (padi) wordt in een vijzel gedaan en gestampt tot de kaf ervan af is. Vervolgens doen de vrouwen de gestampte rijst in een platte houten schaal. Op de houten schaal wordt de rijst door de vrouwen gewand om het kaf van de rijstkorrels te scheiden. De Tempatie is één van de bronrivieren van de Commewijne. Aan deze rivier bevonden zich ook Marronsdorpen, voornamelijk de Aukaners of Ndyuka..
