Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Trooper's Dubb Trooper's Dubb, the water feature at bottom left of the picture, with North Kilduff in the background. Dubb is Scots for a small pool of water. An ancient story tells that this was the location of a titanic drinking contest between Keltie, a vassal of the Laird of nearby Tullibole Castle, and one of the troopers accompanying one of the King James's of Scotland on their way from the palace at Stirling to Falkland Palace. Keltie and the trooper drank from early on a Monday morning until the Wednesday evening, when the trooper dropped off his seat, apparently asleep. Keltie finished off another drink, fell asleep, and woke to find his competitor dead. The trooper was buried at the same spot, which was said to be haunted for many years after. Trooper's Dubb is shown on the old Ordnance Survey maps.
