Text Appearing Before Image:
Britain we see evidence of its life—the factorychimneys—in several directions- The fine product of its factories, especially in the hardware line, have made it known the worldover. All is due its own Yankee grit and cuteness, for thetown, its main concern the full dinner-pail, hustles daily for itsliving. The best trip in New Britain is that to Hartford.New Haven to Hartford via Middletown—the town way. This route leads up thro Wallingford, a manufacturing town.Soon we see ahead the curious Hanging Hills and the watch-tower thereon. Below them nestles Silver Plate Meriden (Win-throp). The city has large and varied manufacturing interests, and two attractive parks, Hubbard (hills), and Hanover (lake). Academic Middletown (Chafee), the seat of Wesleyan Uni-versity, the Reform School for Girls and the State Insane Asy-lum, is attractively placed on a slope rising from the Connecticut,an excellent view of which may be obtained from the WesleyanChapel tower or from the long drawbridge.
