Text Appearing Before Image:
d rendezvous of politicians and mag-nates of the turf, we alight opposite the great Convention Hall, scene of many stormy political rallyings. Just south of it is thePompeia, a reproduction of the House of Pansa at Pompeii. Strolling north under the towering elms and close-clus-tered maples of wide-spaced Broadway, we pass those greathostelries whose fame was once world-wide. Broadway, oneof the worlds great boulevards, where each summer fashion, wealth and beauty display themselves, leads to JVoodlawn Park. The wilder northern part of the park is more attractive, andthe gazer from here discerns the Catskills, and in the haze ofthe horizon our goal: the famed Adirondacks. In the lakes cool waters lurk bass and pickerel, andhither throng the devotee of the rod, the lover of the canoe, andthe strong swimmer. There is a rustic theatre and a Casino. The Glens Falls car circles around past the race-course,where so many hot Julys in the past have seen the crowds cheer-ing wildly as some favorite swung round the track. This Augustwill again see the old race-track in use. The car now runs norththro plain pasture country, glorified and framed in on either handby the low-lying purple hills. Beyond Wilton we can see to the west Mt. McGregor, wherein the little U. S. Grant cottage the great warrior made his lastfight. Here the Metropolitan Life Co. of New York are buildinga huge sanitarium for their own patients. Now the car reaches South Glens Falls near the great papermills, a
