peninsulawhich guards the mouth of the Connecticut to the west, andon which lie Saybrook and Fenwick. The car turns up theMain street of Old Saybrook, once the half-way house of theBoston Post. Just beyond tlie post office our car crosses on a concretetresth the railroad tracks at Saybrook Jc. Carbarn and waitingshelter are but three minutes walk from the depot. Westboundcars_ pass at—13 past, eastbound at—07, and convenient con-nection either way may be made by train nassengers. At Ferry Road the up-river trolley parts company with the New Londoncar, and skips across country to Essex. Essex Point, where the whites firstsettled, projects into the Connecticut, h^re broad and shoal. Now up busy little Falls River to Ivoryton, which specializes in ivorygoods (such as piano keys), whence its name. At Deep River the New Yorkboat leaves about 9.15 in the evening. SAYBROOK AN AUTOMOBILE PARADE Saybrook to New London. Now the new line to New London goes over the highwaybridge which spans the Connecticut, here winding lazily to sea. Lyme is one of the most attractive of the shore towns, andenjoys a superb climate Every bit is picturesque, from riverto beach, and the old town has long been a haunt of artists,who come here year af<ei vcar to paint the beauties of theshore or inland. In early Fall an exhibit of their works is heldin the Town Hall, and the\ say it is well worth seeing. The car runs over the Lien tenant River and past the Old LymeInn (dinner 75c), to the pretty white church, at the junctionof two broad highways. Of these, one runs south two milesto the beaches ar Black Kail, a popular summering-place ofConnecticut people. Up the other, the famous Lyme Street,the car proceeds under the shade of wide-spreading elms.
