to Ogunquit (Sparhawk Hall), whichpossesses the finest beach along this coast, flat as a dancing floorand guarded by sand dunes. At Kennebunk the line to Sanford branches off. (Thisrun goes thro some real Maine backwoods, and leads to the twoisolated but wideawake settlements of Sanford and Springvale.) The main line continues east thro Kennebunks pretty street,with its arching elms, which were planted on the day of thebattle of Lexington. At the old Town House change for Ken-nebunkport, where one may canoe on river or in surf, or forCape Porpoise Casino, on a rocky point, ,and cool even whenthe mercury on Broadway registers 100. Heie the day-tripperfeasts on clams and lobsters, served to the queens taste. Now straight up thro York County we rush, by birch andpine, toward the mills of Biddeford and Saco.
