SUMMER PLEASURES AT FOREST LAKE Spring-field to Worcester via Ware—the hill way This, the very pleasant alternative to the rather long ridevia Southbridge, gives more frequent changes of cars, andshows the passer-by agreeable variety of hill-scenery. After leaving Palmer, the line follows the river, and thecountry is very hilly on the right. After a five-mile ride ForestLake Park is reached. One of the principal features is theboating on the lake, and the grove is also attractive, so thata pleasant hour may be spent here if one desires to stop off. Ware is situated on the Ware River, and the water power islargely used for manufacturing purposes. The name is takenfrom the weirs or wears which were constructed to aid intaking the salmon which, at one time, abounded in the river.Ware is quite a trading center for this farm and hill sectionof Central Massachusetts, and a branch trolley line runs toGilbertville, five miles north.
