City Isl-and, reached by a horserailroad line all its own from Bartow, running to Belden Point onCity Islands furthest end (3 miles, 10 cents, making no connectionswith other lines), is probably farther back in the past in its lifeand character than any other district in or about New York. Almost every inch of this ground has its story of Americanhistory. This is truly Revolutionary and Historic Westchester.Here, during the Revolution, was a hotbed of Tories, organizedunder the name of the Tory Westchester Light Horse.1 ColonelDe Lancey headed this troop. Westchester Creek was the centreof many a conflict. These were the the Cowboys of history.
