Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrips 04 - Joffre Group - 10 (90976623).jpg |
Two of the three Joffre Lakes show their milky blue colours nestled and protected in the steep, rocky cirque. The colour is due to fine glacier-fed particulates in the water. The Matier glacier however has receeded up the wall above the lake and no longer calves icebergs into it as it once did. The lake is always very cold. Day hiking and camping at Joffre Lakes is very popular for obvious reasons. The photo was taken from the slope of Slalok. The highway 99 (Duffy Lake Rd) can be seen visible in the distance down the valley. |
