Triplaris - female trees. Another beautiful South American tree. One of the largest and most spectacular members of the Polygonaceae or Buckwheat family. The portuguese name 'Pau Formiga' means Antwood. Other common names: Mulatto Tree or Long John I think it is Triplaris weigeltiana (syn. T. surinamensis), but possibly another species.
