Guru Teg Bahadur ' Shrishti De Chadhar'

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Guru Teg Bahadur 'Srishti di Chaddar - ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਦਰ।

Guru Teg Bahadur (1621-1675) bought land in Makhowal village and founded a city, named it as 'Chak Nanaki ' after his mother's name Nanaki. Now, it is known as Anandpur Sahib means city of bliss. A deputation of Kashmiri Pandits came to Anandpur Sahib to seek the help of Guru Teg Bahadur against forcible conversion of religion. After nominating Gobind Rai as his successor, the Guru left for Delhi. Guru Teg Bahadur didn't accept Islam or perform miracle, thus attained martyrdom on November 11, 1675.

In the painting, the Artist has shown the Guru sitting in a posture of a great saint on the platform of stones under a Banyan tree. Refusing to perform miracle or to accept Islam, the Guru chose the path of supreme sacrifice to save Hinduism and infuse courage and confidence in downtrodden people. Thus, he is called 'Srishti Di Chaddar ---ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਦਰ।
