Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Trig point at the highest spot of the Slacks "The Slacks" is not the name of a single peak, but is the name given to this area of undulating landscape:

"The name is probably an English plural of the Gaelic word 'sloc' - a pit, for the surrounding area consists of a succession of hollows and gulleys running roughly from west to east. In Scots 'slack' can mean a hollow, a saddle on a hill ridge, or a pass, but the latter two meanings seem unlikely here. The ground is typical moorland, covered with heather, bracken, grass and rocks." [Prof. Robert A. Rankin, "March Stones in the Kilpatrick Hills - A Feuars' Dispute of the 1850s"]

The base of the trig point bears the flush bracket number 3664. Behind it, the nearer body of water is Greenside Reservoir, with Cochno Loch behind. The Campsie Hills fill much of the distant background. At their leftmost edge (in this photo), the two adjacent foothills of Dumgoyne and Dumfoyn, in NS5482, are (barely) visible; these peaks mark the western edge of the Campsies.
