| Description |
English: Introduced cool-season annual herbaceous C3 legume. Stems are semi-erect and up to 50 cm tall. Leaves have 3 leaflets; each leaflet has white markings similar to White Clover and are finely toothed in the lower half. Flowerheads are distinctive 15-20 mm wide heads. Flowers have light pink petals that are short and slightly protrude from the calyx; calyx is shaped like a top-shaped bladder with 5 narrow apical lobes. Flowers in spring. A native of the Mediterranean, it is a sown pasture legume. Used for grazing in ley or short-term phase farming systems. It is a lower cost alternative to subterranean clover and annual medics in many situations due to its high seed yields that can be direct harvested by grain harvesters. Productive forage tolerant of heavy grazing in medium-low rainfall areas. Very well adapted to mildly acid and alkaline sandy-loam and loam soils High levels of hard seed enables regeneration after cropping. Ideal companion plant in mixtures with other legumes such as Subterranean Clover or Serradella |
