Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrent and Mersey Canal east of Swarkestone, Derbyshire - geograph.org.uk - 1555705.jpg |
English: Trent and Mersey Canal east of Swarkestone, Derbyshire. The Trent and Mersey Canal, engineered by James Brindley, was opened in 1777. It is 93 miles in length from Preston Brook to Derwent Mouth, and there are 76 locks. These are almost fifteen feet wide from Derwent Mouth to Stenson (both Derbyshire), though other restrictions limit this part of the canal to wider boats only up to ten feet in beam as far as Burton (Horninglow). West of Stenson, the rest of the locks are narrow, at just over seven feet. |
