Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Trent & Mersey Canal - Brindley Bank. The canal makes a sharp right angled turn to cross James Brindley's brick arch aqueduct over the River Trent. The coal wharf on the outside of the bend supplied the steam engines 476357 at the water pumping station 475443 on the slope above. A footpath known locally as The Bloody Steps leads uphill from the coal wharf. Christina Collins was murdered here in 1839. Of the three men responsible one was hanged, another sent to prison and the other transported to Australia.
