ALL SAINTS. Trelystan. A remote church on the Shropshire Montgomershire border, 900 ft up at the S end of the Long Mountain. Unique in Montgomeryshire in that it is timber-built and that timber pannelling is used as infill between the stud work. . Single-chamber, with S porch and W belfry; C15. Restored in 1856: brick and timber casing outside and matchboarding inside. C19 simple cusped timber windows. C15 roof of principals and arched braces with two tiers of trefoiled wind-braces - quite typical except that every other truss was strengthened with a tie-beam, now sawn off and replaced with iron ties. A medieval screen of five lights S of the main opening survive, without their cresting, but with five different ogee tracery heads robustly carved in oak. The timber framing of the nave walls were restored in 2014.
