Instead of putting onextra boats, as is usual in other countries at holiday times,the steamboat company crowded hundreds of excur-sionists on to a wretched old tub, until the deck wasalmost level with the water. On arrival, however, we werepartially compensated for this experience by the scenesround the Monastery of St. George. Here groups ofpeasants from the islands in the Marmara, and fromthe Bithvnian coast, were dancing the horci in the mostsolemn fashion.
