abate a singlekreuzer of his price. At Sarajevo only the Bosniaksare permitted to have stalls in the bazar—a privilegewhich they much appreciate, and which is shared byall the confessions alike. Only one part of the bazaris under cover, and is almost entirely devoted to textilefabrics. In the midst of the bazar is the great beautyof Sarajevo—the famous mosque, called Begova-Dzamija,which was built by Usref, Pasha of Bosnia and conquerorof Jajce in the second quarter of the sixteenth century.Usref was the real founder of Turkish Saraj, which underthe old Bosnian kingdom had little importance, and ofall his works this mosque is the finest. An oldclock-tower and some Mussulman graves, one of thefounder, another of the late mayor, complete the picture, while over the way an old Mohammedan school stillremains, a striking contrast to the spick-and-span ScJienat-scJuilc which we have already described. Of the modernbuildings the two handsomest are the new town hall andthe Government offices ; the former, which stands on thebank of the river, has only been completed within thelast few years, and is cons
