Summary
[edit]DescriptionTravelling Gallery at Baltasound Junior High School - geograph.org.uk - 2450216.jpg |
English: The Travelling Gallery bus (reg. PO56 RTZ), pictured at a school in Baltasound, Shetland, Scotland. The Travelling Gallery was started by the Scottish Arts Council in 1978, first using a converted second hand double-decker bus. After that was a success, they spent £60,000 to buy a 1983 Leyland Olympian double-decker with Roe bodywork (reg. TFS 623Y) and convert it for use as the gallery bus. In 1997 The City of Edinburgh Council took over the project, and ownership of the bus. In 2006 research began on a replacement vehicle. The current bus, a Scania N94UD OmniDekka double-decker, was delivered new to the council in December 2006, and after conversion into a single deck gallery space, it was launched in Edinburgh on 12th April 2007. When not visting places around Scotland, the bus is based at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh. |
