Pavement joint out of alignment in Virginia on I 66. in 2013

Summary

[edit]
Description When maintaining the joint against the existing pavement, it was important to use the survey baseline as a reference rather than to attempt to perfect the alignment of each slab during the FHWA, Highways for LIFE project with Virginia DOT to demonstrate the use of precast concrete pavement system (PCPS) technology to replace concrete slabs on a section of I-66at night. A temporary cold patch or closure pour was necessary to open the roadway to traffic at the end of installation.
