Description Barley HISTIDINE KINASE 1 (HvHK1) coordinates transfer cell specification in the young endosperm. Figure 2 HvHK1 repression induces defects in endosperm transfer cell (ETC) differentiation and endosperm tissues in a dose-dependent manner. (a) Quantitative RT-PCR analysis of microdissected ETCs from grains 4 days after flowering (DAF) showed varying reduction of HvHK1 transcripts of up to 80% in RNA interference (RNAi) lines. Error bars denote SD with triplicates. Arrows mark investigated lines (grey: representative line 4_9). (b) Thousand-grain weight (TGW) and (c) starch content in T4-grains of RNAi-lines and wild type (WT) (DW, dry weight). Significance level estimated by t-test: ***P < 0.001.
