h the urethra. At timesportions of growths can be torn off by curettes and washedfrom the bladder to be collected and examined microscopi-cally. The evidence thus given will often have great influencein the choice of the method of operating, which will give thegreatest possibilities of cure. Large papilloma of the bladder, either benign or malig-nant, have the same tendency to return after removal; aboutone in four doing so very soon after operation. Considered from an operative standpoint there are threetypes of tumors of the bladder: (1) Those with a pedicle;(2) those with a broad surface area of growth from themucosa; (3) those which involve all the walls of the bladder.Owing to the great tendency to recurrence as well as to changein character, these tumors must be treated radically.
