the concentrated attention whichhe gave them. He was most thorough and painstaking inhis examinations and treatment. His private practice wasa large one. He devoted the forenoon hours to new patientsand routine treatment of old ones, and the afternoon tooperating. Dr. Casselberry look a most active interest in his specialtyof nose, throat, and ear disease, but also continued deeplyinterested in diseases of the lungs. He contributed annuallyarticles of merit to the national and local laryngologicalsocieties. Unfortunately, ill-health many years ago inter-rupted the completion of a book which he had partly writtenupon his specialty. Dr. Casselberrvs family has resided in or near Phila-delphia since colonial times. His grandmother was a Rushof the family of Dr. Benjamin Rush. Dr. Casselberry graduated as Doctor of Medicine fromthe Universitv of Pennsvlvania in 1879, and served asResident Physician and Surgeon in Germantown Hospital.When he left that institution he went for post-graduate

On his return to thiscountry he settled in Chicago, where he lived until his death. In (883 he became Professor of Materia Medica andTherapeutics in North-western University Medical School.This chair he held until 1894. He also conducted out-patient clinics in the throat and chest department of theSouth Side Free Dispensary. In 1894 he was made Pro-fessor of Laryngology and Rhinology in the same school,and began the development of a clinical service which soonbecame a large and valuable one for teaching purposes.Much earlier he limited his private practice to this specialty.For many years he had been attending laryngologist andrhinologist to St. Lukes Hospital. Dr. Casselberrv was a Fellow of the American MedicalAssociation, and formerlv Chairman of the section ofLaryngology and Otology. He was an active member oftransactionsofa3219amer_0
