by hockey critics that this was almost impossible, but,backed up by the good old Varsity spirit, 100 per cent, pure,they achieved the impossible, earning the right to be knownas the Iron Men. In the Allan Cup semi-finals Varsity played three games,winning all by a good margin. In the finals, played at Winnipegon March 19th and 21st, the first game was lost to Brandon bya score of 2-0. This game was played on soft ice, which handi-capped the lighter and faster Varsity team. In the second game,played on hard ice, Varsity justified the confidence placed inthem by their supporters, by romping home on the long end ofan 8-1 score, thus bringing the Allan Cup back to the East witha good margin of five goals. S. P. S. was well represented on the Intermediate team byH. L. McCulloch (Captain), G. A. Thomson, F. R. McDonald,G. F. Evans and H. J. D. Wilford. This team won their groups in the Intermediate Intercolle-giate and Intermediate O.H.A. series. In the former they were 160 THE TRANSACTIONS

SCHOOL ATHLETICS 1920-21 161 beaten in the finals by Queens University by the small margin ofone goal, while in the latter series they were defeated by Belle-ville in the second elimination round. In the Junior series Schools representative on the teamwas Steve Grey, of U.T.S. fame. This team was successful inwinning the S.P.A. Cup, but in the O.H.A. series, after tyingtheir group with De La Salle, lost out in a very stubbornlycontested game. In the Intercollegiate play-off with QueensUniversity they tied their round, but in the play-off at Trentonwere unsuccessful in their clash with the heavier Queens team. The season just past has been the most successful Canadasgreat winter sport has ever had. U. of T., in winning the premierhonors, has much of which she may well be proud, and Schoolscontribution to these honors has more than upheld the traditionsof the Old Red Schoolhouse. Basketball For another year basketball is on the shelf, and School hasfailed to win the much-coveted Sifton
