In this specimen the coils are wound around a centralaxis in one plane, having a discoidal form. A head-like termin-ation of the coil is seen at the upper margin. This example formsan intermediate type between the worm-like casts on the one handand the discoidal buns on the other. Natural size. Figs. 1, 4, 5, and 6 agree in the diameter of their respectivecoils; and figs. 2 and 3 also agree with each other in this respect,being somewhat smaller in diameter than the others mentioned.In the two examples shown in figs. 2 and 3, slight constrictionsoccur in the body whorls (especially where the latter make anacute turn), which may have been caused by a succession of smallbulgings of an annulated soft body as the result of longitudinalpressure. Adams and Angas in P.Z.S., 1864, p. 193,under the name of Lorica angasi, but later Pil&bry, in Man.Con., pt. 56, p. 238, very wisely separates it from that genus,and proposes the generic name of Loricella for its reception,distinguishing it from the genus Lorica as follows: Sinusin tail valve a mere wave; jugal sinus lobed; girdle widestin front, not cleft behind; but adds the note, I have notseen this species, which is here figured for the first time fromdrawings made by Emerton for Carpenter/ An examination of a fair series makes it necessary tomodify this generic description.
