Summary
[edit]DescriptionTramway Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1520840.jpg |
English: Tramway Bridge. Tramway Bridge crosses the River Avon about 100 yards (90m) to the southeast of 1520799. Though a youngster compared to that latter bridge, it is nevertheless nearly 200 years old, as it was constructed in 1826. The bridge was built to carry the Stratford & Moreton Tramway across the Avon to meet the canal basin of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. For information on this horse-drawn tramway see the Wikipedia entry here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford_and_Moreton_Tramway
As can be seen from this photograph, it may no longer carry horse-drawn trams, nor coal and limestone, but it is thronged with milling visitors to this popular town. |
