A Davyhulme, leau dégout, répartie entre vingt-deux fosses sep-tiques, est épurée exclusivement par lits bactériens de premier con-tact et, en partie, par lits de second contact. Toute linstallation acoulé 12000000 de francs, et les dépenses dentretien sont de 1 francpar 1 000 mètres cubes deau traitée (Voy. fig. 20). Salford, faubourg de Manchester, épure 36000 mètres cubes dansune autre station au moyen de lits bactériens à becs pulvérisateursfixes. Leau est dabord traitée par 0sr,05 de chaux et 0gr,02 de sul-fate ferreux par litre, puis décantée et filtrée à travers un lit de gra-vier avant dêtre distribuée sur les lits.
