Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrains passing at Ropley Station - geograph.org.uk - 1718061.jpg |
English: Trains passing at Ropley Station An Alresford bound train hauled by 850 Lord Nelson arrives at Ropley Station, with an Alton bound service waiting at the other platform.
The 4-6-0 Lord Nelson class were built by the Southern Railway between 1926 and 1929 to a design of Charles Maunsell, originally for boat trains from London (Victoria) to Dover but later used for services from London (Waterloo) to South West England. They were withdrawn from service in 1961-2, with the first example built, Lord Nelson, being the only one of the 16 to be preserved. |
