| Description |
English: Traffic jam on A48 The surprise snow on Friday the 9th of February did not fox the majority of drivers, who were proceeding quite carefully home. However, it only takes one bad accident to bring the entire road to a standstill for hours .... and hours. Later reports suggest 500 motorists were stranded on a 12 mile stretch of dual carriageway between Carmarthen and Cross Hands. The only service area is one petrol station shop, and that looked closed to me when I passed it.
After an hour of absolutely no movement whatsoever those who weren't amusing themselves making snowmen were saying the police had announced that they had no solution. I joined the small trickle of drivers picking their way past the parked cars to the pictured junction and drove home on other perfectly passable roads. According to this story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6344685.stm all the remaining drivers were evacuated (on foot ?) leaving their cars behind. |
