Bench of Carnation Mrs. JAM E S C EAN. Taken Dec. 22, after Cutting 9 Weeks. Mrs. James Dean. Color clear silvery pink, delicate and chaste, yet brilliant and effective under all lights. Flower large, very full as season advances, and borne on long, wiry stem, calyx perfect. Habit similar to Scott, with the same healthy glaucous foliage as Scott, About 6 in. taller than Scott. A free bloomer, but spreads its crop evenly over the blooming season. There is no healthier carnation grown, and we believe it to be the ideal light pink. The merit of this variety is conceded alike by growers, dealers and the flower-buying public. Has proved a prize-winner whenever shown this season as well as last. A fine healthv carnation that every grower ought to succeed with. One of our favorites. $5.00 per 100 ; $40.00 per 1000. Gold Nugget. Clear, deep yellow, slightly marked with red. The first real rival of Buttercup in color. In point of productiveness and constant bloom- ing, far ahead of Buttercup. Strong grower, free, early and continual bloomer. Medium- sized, high-centered flower, does not burst. Stem long and stiff, and bloom a first-class keeper. The best yellow we have ever grown, and a prize- winner wherever shown. After growing this variety for the second year we can add that this is the only yellow carnation we have grown to date that showed a profit. $6.00 per 100 ; $50.00 per 1000. Weilesley. Deep scarlet, similar in color to Hector. Slender habit of the Grace Wilder type. Flower medium size, 2 in. to 2% in. Stems 12 in. to 16 in. Very profuse bloomer. $5.00 per 100. C. A. Dana. Delicate shell-pink. Vigorous, wiry grower, erect habit, medium to large flower on stiff, wiry stems, color very soft and exception- ally pleasing, flower a splendid keeper, one of the most attractive pink carnations. Under extra treatment blooms may be grown 3 in. in diameter, on 18 in. stems. $2.00 per 100; $15.00 per 1000. Lizzie McGowan. Color white, slightly tinted with color at times. Medium to large flower, on thin wiry stems, frequently not stiff enough to properly support the flower. Very productive and generally grown. Under extra culture on suitable soils this variety produces 3 in. blooms on 16 in. stems, which, however, are hardly stiff enough. $2.00 per 100; $12.00 per 1000.
