Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrackbed of former railway east of Godmanchester - geograph.org.uk - 715864.jpg |
English: Trackbed of former railway east of Godmanchester The railway in question was the former Great Eastern & Great Northern Joint line which ran between Huntingdon (East) and St Ives with an intermediate station at Godmanchester. The line closed to passengers in June 1959, though a freight service to Godmanchester remained until 1962. Had the rapid economic expansion of this part of Cambridgeshire begun earlier, the line might just have survived. Indeed, the trackbed of the former railway from St Ives to Cambridge is now in the process of being converted into a guided busway. The section of line seen here has now been taken over by the Ouse Valley Way footpath. |
