Title
Toy Soldier from Belton
Description
English:

Lead Alloy

Toy Soldier. Solid cast semi-flat model representing a mounted lancer or uhlan with knee length boots, rectangular saddlecloth and round blanket roll; on one side the lance is modelled at the slope, running along the neck of a cantering horse; on the other side a hanging sabre appears. Sky blue paint remains on the trousers; the jacket was possibly red, and the horse and boots black; this could represent a continental soldier. The heads of both horse and rider are lost, as are the lower legs of the horse and the base. This figure was probably made in Germany, in a form derived from flat toys which are especially associated with Nuremburg. Imported toy soldiers were displaced from the early 20th century by domestic manufacturers. Suggested date: Modern, 1880-1910.

Length: 43.6mm, Height: 40.7mm, Thickness: 8.2mm, Weight: 33.71gms.
