Summary
[edit]DescriptionTowton Battlefield Memorial Cross - geograph.org.uk - 311105.jpg |
English: Towton Battlefield Memorial Cross This cross commemorates the Battle of Towton, fought on Palm Sunday, 29th March 1461, which was the longest, biggest and bloodiest battle ever fought on British soil. Beyond the cross and the Garforth to Towton road are fields to the South East that would have seen much of the fighting as the Yorkist army came up the Ferrybridge to Tadcaster Road from the South to meet the main Lancastrian force, King Henry VI's army, coming down from York. |
