DescriptionTower truck maintaining overhead power lines (Montreal, 1920).jpg |
English: 1920 was the first year a truck was used for the purpose of maintaining overhead power lines used by trams. The tower was a telescopic structure used to raise a platform from which workers could more easily maintain electrical overhead lines. Although the wooden structure seems a bit precarious, cables linked to it made the task safe for workers. The tower truck was equipped with a wide array of tools used to repair the many kinds of problems that could occur on the network. This team was known as the "emergency patrol." In cases where the tracks were difficult to access by truck, an electric tower tram was used instead. |
