Tower Hill tower, Gourock, with HMS Sutherland heading down the Firth of Clyde on Exercise Joint Warrior 20/1

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tower Hill tower, Gourock, with HMS Sutherland (F81) heading west down the Firth of Clyde on the second day of Exercise Joint Warrior 20/1, passing Kilcreggan and the entrance to Loch Long. The Tower Hill tower in Gourock was built in 1847 for Duncan Darroch, 2nd chief of Clan Darroch of Gourock, who inherited the barony and estate in 1827 and with his wife moved into Gourock House around 1830. The tower was used by the Royal Observer Corps during World War II. Tower Hill was bought by the town of Gourock in September 1945, and is now a public park. pp. 6, 16–17; Milne, Colin (1958), The History of Gourock 1858-1958.
