Description
English: Towpath of Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, near Washington DC. Note the snubbing posts on the towpath, in the foreground. (Photo looks like it is Lock 16 in the background. Note that to the right of the towpath in the photo, looks like the river, but if you look carefully, it is a long shallow puddle. Today in that area, there are more trees, the canal level around lock 16 is usually empty (for trucks to ford over the canal) so the water level on the other side will be lower, but it still can get soggy like this photo.)
