Thistrip costs 50 cents.The Beyond Salt Lake City the route enters theWasatch beautiful Utah Valley, which the enterprise of theMountains Mormon settlers has made a-blossoming. Fromthis valley the train penetrates Spanish Fork Can-yon and the Red Narrows, thence into the heart ofthe Wasatch Mountains. At Soldier Summit thetop of the range is crossed at an altitude of 7465feet. Then comes the descent into the valley ofthe Green River through Price Canyon, one of theruggedest in the whole line. Here river and rail-road dispute every inch of the way to the entrance ofthe canyon, where two great sandstone shafts, 500feet in height, guard the way to the valley. Theseare known as Castle Gate. Just beyond, looking tothe south, one may descry the broken wall of theGrand Canyon of the Colorado in the far distance Passing a stretch of arid desert, the railroadenters the valley of the Grand River, which itfollows for many miles.

THE P E X N S Y L V A X I A RAILROAD. The Wasatch Mountains Canyon of the Grand River Glenwood Springs, Col. High mountain peaks are visible on all sides,while nearby are fine farms and rushing streams. The Canyon of the Grand differs from other Col-orado canyons in that instead of the usual dark-redgranite walls, the cliffs, at some places 2500 feethigh, are of bright and varied colors and for a dis-tance of sixteen miles form a series of bastions ofbrilliant vermilion, green, yellow, and maroon, Glenwood Springs will be found to be one of themost interesting points visited. It is one of thegreat health resorts of the State, situated at theconfluence of the Grand River with the RoaringFork, in a beautiful valley. Its altitude is aboutthe same as that of Denver. It is especially notedfor its hot sulphur springs, large out-door bathingpool and bath house, and hot vapor caves. This canyon is the centre of great mining activityand of great natural beauty.
