Mountain Divides is crossed at an elevation of3946 feet through the Coriacan Defile. This pretty town is located on the shore of LakePend dOreille, the Lake George of the Northwest.The thriving city of Spokane has been devel-oped through the lumber trade. Cutting the cityin two is the Spokane River, which directly in thecentre of the city is whipped into cascade and fall,which gives the place its name. It will be foundfull of interest to Eastern tourists.Stampede The summit of the Cascade Range is pierced atTunnel Stampede Tunnel, seventy-five miles east of Ta-coma. This tunnel is the second longest in theUnited States, being nearly two miles in length.It pierces the range at an altitude of 2840 feet.

The residential section, whichis situated upon terraced hills, is beautifully laidout. The coal mines back of Seattle send out manythousands of tons a day. Lake Washing, a lovelysheet of water, is situated in the suburbs. Mt.
