Français : Tourcoing — les Halles au Sud de l'église Saint Christophe. Construit en lieu et place du château du Bailly de 1878 à 1880 d'après les plans de Louis Le Blan*, l'édifice se veut un symbole de la modernité urbaine prônée par la Municipalité et Charles Roussel-Defontaines, maire de la Ville de 1857 à 1879. Sur la droite du cliché, une enseigne indiquant la présence d'un théâtre ; celui-ci a-il déménagé pour intégrer ces halles ? Toujours est-il qu'en 1912, l'architecte Eugène Pagnerre est chargé de transformer l'édifice afin d'y installer une salle de spectacle, une autre pour le cinéma. Le complexe prend le nom d'Hippodrome, son directeur en est A.Picot.
