English: Louis-Pierre Anquetil (1723 - 1808) was a priest, notably in Château-Renard from 1766 to 1790. He surrendered his priesthood in 1793 during the Terror episode of the French Revolution, when religion became for some time something to hide for safety's sake. During his life he wrote several books on diverse aspects of French history, which are all the more important for the scarcity of such sources of information from these periods. His most famous work is his monumental Histoire de France, which he started upon Napoleon's request ; but died before seeing the end of it and the work was completed by others. Another of his works, L'Intrigue du Cabinet, sous Henri IV et Louis XIII, terminée par la Fronde, in 4 volumes, was published in 1780. This is probably what he worked upon while in Château-Renard, and most of it was written in this tower.
