Dos monumentos profanos da Vidigueira, a Torre do Relógio é um dos que mais interesse merecem, não tanto pela torre em si, mas cuja data de construção ignoramos, pois não lhe encontramos qualquer referência que nos elucidasse, mas pelo sino que alberga, mandado fazer por Vasco da Gama em 1520, como consta da inscrição que nele se lê: Este sino mandou fazer o Sr. Conde Dom Vasco Almirante da Índia. No decurso das obras de restauro foram colocados no relógio os ponteiros que este nunca tinha tido, de modo que os vidigueirenses possam não só ouvir o som familiar das suas badaladas, mas também saber as horas sempre que para lá olhem. A torre é uma construção quadrangular, tendo no alto, para onde se sobe por uma escada de caracol, uma guarda com uma grilhagem em tijolos e um ornato em cada canto, e no meio, como remate, uma guarita ou coruchéu, que alberga o sino já referido e se abre para cada lado por um olhar com arco de volta inteira. <a href="https://www.freguesiavidigueira.pt/index.php/patrimonio/torre-do-relogio" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.freguesiavidigueira.pt/index.php/patrimonio/torre-do-...</a> |
