Español: Construida en astilleros Yarrow de Poplar, isle of Dogs, río Tamesis, Londres, Inglaterra, con el número de construcción 452.
Originalmente construida para Italia. Fue comprada por el Gobierno de Chile ante el conflicto bélico con Perú y Bolivia. Fue enviada encajonada a Valparaíso, donde fue ensamblada. Fue la primera torpedera con la cual contó la Armada de Chile. Su característica principal era que tenía proa de ariete y dos chimeneas, una a cada banda de la embarcación. Tuvo lucida actuación durante la Guerra del Pacífico, tanto en la ocupación de Ilo el 26 de febrero de 1880 y en el bloqueo de El Callao, iniciado el 10 de abril de 1880, donde fue hundida en poca agua dentro de la dársena en un combate de torpederas, el 25 de mayo de 1880. Para evitar que fuese reflotada por el enemigo, en una audaz acción nocturna, el buzo José Sobenes Valdebenito le colocó una carga de dinamita de 100 kilos que la destrozó, el 8 de junio de 1880. |
